III. Works of 20th Century Tamil Authors
A. Authors whose literary works are already in public domain
Tamilnadu Govt. has already placed the literary works of a select list of tamil authors in public domain (see list below). An attempt will be made to put in electronic form the works of these authors.

- Thiru Vi. Ka.
Very recently Tamilnadu Govt. has announced plans to place in public domain the works of
several other distinguished tamil authors
The following is a short list:
- kavimani dEcika vinaayagam pillai

While preparation of etexts of these two authors can start now, public distribution of etexts have to wait possibly for a year - till the official Tamilnadu Gazette notification to this effect.
B. Recent Tamil Authors who give permission to place their works in the electronic archives
20th Century Tamil Literature is largely dominated by novels. One of our PM volunteers Mr. Gandhi Kannadhasan has been lobbying with leading tamil novelists, encouraging them to place at least one or two representive novels in the electronic archives. Most probably we may be able to put in etext form select novels of the following authors:
Mr.Akilan
Mr.Naa Paarthasarathy {thru their legalheirs]
Mr.Prabanjan,
Smt.Indumathi,
Smt Rajam Krishnan,
Mr.Indira Parthasarathi
Mr.Malan and
Sri.Jeyakanthan.
IV. English Translations of Tamil Literary Works
Tamil has been fortunate to have several distinguished westerners write elegant translations and commentaries, many in the last (19th century). The English translations of Rev. G.U. Pope (1828-1908) of thirukuRaL and thiruvAcakam are examples. Project Madurai would attempt to provide authentic etext versions of these ancient but classic translations. Arrangements are being made to put the English translation of thirukuRaL and other tamil literary works of Yogi Suddhantha Bharathi.
V. Tamil Literary works of Authors of Srilankan Origin
Jaffna Tamil Library has been the major resource center for the tamil literary works of authors of Sri Lankan Origin. Unfortunately fire at this renowned library destroyed all the precious book collections. Majority of tamil authors of sri lankan origin are also displaced from their homeland. There is a major risk of loosing all the tamil works of sri lankan origin. Hence Project Madurai will make an effort to bring in electronic form whatever work we can have access.
